A Walk in the Watershed
Description
What are salmonids and where do streams come from? Students are introduced to the concept of a 'watershed'. Participants discover that ecosystems are connected by the flow of water, and that human activities on land affect the lives of animals and fish downstream. From Laughlin Lake, down salmon-restored Greig Creek, to the ocean at Retreat Cove, participants use scientific methods to evaluate stream health and to collect and survey insects. They then determine the quality of the stream as habitat for salmonids. Fosters watershed awareness and stewardship.
