Secrets of the Forest

Offered by Galiano Conservancy Association and last updated on March 01, 2011.

Description

Students visit the Pebble Beach Nature Reserve where they are immersed in the rich complexity of a mature forest. Here they learn about the key components of a healthy forest ecosystem. Then students are introduced to a young industrial forest plantation where they explore how the simplified and degraded area differs from the mature forest. The program finishes with a tour through an active forest restoration site where we are helping to transform the plantation into a healthy diverse forest. Students are invited to participate in the restoration process, creating new habitat using our unique and safe hand-powered techniques.
