At the Britannia Discovery Centre, students will learn the science behind water treatment through an interactive experience. Students will: circulate through interactive exhibits in small groups, participate in activities related to the water treatment process (i.e. conduct a chemical reaction to remove heavy metals from the water, make some sludge with a filter press), have the opportunity to touch and smell the sludge, test how much human power it takes to light various bulbs with a hydro-electricity simulator, look at the control room, inspect the filter press room, observe the clarifiers, examine the view of Howe Sound, look at the micro-hydro generation plant, observe the mine adit (the passage leading into the mine), be challenged to take some personal action towards water stewardship and environmental sustainability.
