Our Field Trips

  • In this program, your class will learn that who you were - First Nations, European, Japanese or Chinese - determined where you lived and worked at Britannia. Contrast the luxury of the manager's house with the griminess of the men's bunkhouse. See how a Japanese family lived and hear about the gruelling yet resilient lives of the Chinese workers.
  • Your students will be taken on a guided tour of the site, and learn about the different industries and ethnic groups that once called Britannia home. They will visit a reconstructed Japanese home, and search for clues to learn about the leves of a Japanese boatbuilding family and the secret Asayo Murakami kept hidden from her family for almost eighty years.
  • Students will tour a working historic shipyard and see wooden vessels under repair. They will learn basic boat terminology before heading back to the shop and then apply their knowledge to building a model wooden fishing boat to take home.
