Think outside the bento box with this resource kit bursting with resources to help teachers explore the lessons of Japanese Canadian history. Materials include lesson plans, novels, dvd, reproductions of archival materials, and a model of an internment shack.

Immerse your students in traditional Japanese culture. Skilled instructors introduce students to four different activities in groups of fifteen. Possible activities include calligraphy, trying on kimono (traditional Japanese robes), martial arts, tea ceremony. Contact the Coordinator about availability. Tours are from 1030am - 12:30. Please book at least 3 weeks in advance.

The lessons of Japanese Canadian history apply to all who wish to live in a just society. This program makes the experience real. It enhances the teaching of ““internment and redress in grade 5 and Social Studies 11, Japan” in Grade 6, “Obasan”, Comparative Civilizations 12, and multicultural studies. This two-hour program features four 30-minute components: an introductory video about internment and exile; survivor talk; gallery tour of current exhibition; discussion of choices and consequences Japanese Canadians faced during WWII. Tours are from 10:30 am to 12:30 Please book at least 3 weeks in advance.
