Every major period in Whistler's history - from remote backcountry settlement, to a popular summer fishing retreat, bustling ski resort, and world-renowned Olympic Games host - occured alongside substantial changes to Whistler's links with the outside world. Aimed at high-school level history, geography, and social studies classes, this presentation examines the intricate historical relationship between transportation infrastructure and social development in the Sea-to-Sky Corridor. A modified version of this presentation addresses the prescribed learning outcomes of the grade 5 curriculum.

Explore the many wonders to be found in Whistler's natural environment. Starting with "deep" time scales, students learn all about how volcanic fire and glacial ice shaped our surrounding landscape. Next we'll examine the intricate ecological web that supports our region's abundance and diversity: giant cedars, playful bears, abundant salmon, vibrant wildflowers, and more! The journey concludes as we introduce the human element. How have we changed the natural environment, how has it changed us, and what kind of relationship with our surroundings do we want to have in our future? This presentation is aimed at upper-level primary students, but can be adapted to younger or older students upon request. The presentation will be followed by activities and an opportunity to explore the Museum.

From Creekside to Whistler Village to Cheakamus Crossing learn how Whistler has grown and what makes a resort community work. This presentation will begin in the pioneer days with Whistler’s first resort- Rainbow Lodge, and then trace the development of the ski hill, village and all of Whistler’s modern amenities. Your students will get a chance to try their hands at creating a resort of their own and then have the opportunity to explore the Museum’s exhibits.

Before there was Whistler there was Alta Lake. Focusing on Myrtle Philip and Rainbow Lodge, learn about how the pioneers lived before the valley had power, infrastructure, or a highway. Hear about Teddy the Bear. Discover the popular summer and winter activities the pioneers participated in. Activities will be focused on the pioneer sections of our exhibit, with an opportunity to explore the remainder of the Museum at will. Add a beeswax candle rolling craft for $1 per student.

Quite a lot has happened in Whistler in the last 100 years! Join the Whistler Museum on a whirlwind journey through the valley's past. From travelling with packhorses up the rough Pemberton Trail, to skiing the newly developed mountains, all the way to becoming a world-class resort and hosting the 2010 Winter Games. Following the presentation, your class will be able to interact with our exhibits as we provide curriculum-linked activities and an opportunity to explore the Museum. Add a beeswax candle rolling craft for $1 per student.
