Outreach: Starlab - Portable Planetarium

Program Description

Immerse your students in the Universe with our digital portable planetarium. With Starlab 2.0 you will be able to stand on the Moon and look back at Earth, experience a Martian sunrise, and even see what the Milky Way galaxy looks like. 

The Starlab is a large dome that can be easily set up in any 7 x 7 x 4 metre (23 x 23 x 12.5 feet) space. The program consists of:

  • Elementary School – up to 6 presentations / day (20-30 minute presentations).
  • Secondary School – up to 4 presentations / day (40 minute presentations).
  • Also available for community groups.
Big Ideas
  • Light and sound can be produced and their properties can be changed.
  • Observable patterns and cycles occur in the local sky and landscape.
  • The motions of Earth and the moon cause observable patterns that affect living and non-living systems.
  • The solar system is part of the Milky Way, which is one of billions of galaxies.

    Fee Notes: 

    Full Day: $564 per day + mileage; travel time and accommodation, if applicable, + GST

    Mileage costs apply to all programs. Travel time is charged to schools except those in the following districts: SD 37 – Delta, SD 38 – Richmond, SD 39 – Vancouver, SD 40 – New Westminster, SD 41 – Burnaby, SD 44 – North Vancouver, SD 45 – West Vancouver. For schools located outside the Metro Vancouver Area, accommodation fees also apply.

    Additional Notes

    Call for availability. A maximum of 30 students can be accommodated in each presentation (for elementary schools maximum of 180 students per day). Elementary school - up to 6 presentations/day (20 - 30 minute presentations). Secondary school - up to 4 presentations/day (40 minute presentations).
