BC Sports Hall of Fame

Our Trips

This field trip explores the inspiring accomplishments of two great Canadian heroes: Terry Fox and Rick Hansen. Future Hall of Famers will spend time in the Terry Fox and Rick Hansen Galleries learning about these heroes’ humble beginnings and discussing how overcoming their physical obstacles became the catalyst for two extraordinary adventures.

Through their strength, determination, and selfless desire to help others in need, Terry Fox and Rick Hansen have touched the hearts of a nation and will forever be remembered for their contributions to sport and medical research. Canadians all over the country showed their support for Terry and Rick on their journeys. After the tour students will create a letter of support for Terry or Rick to encourage them on their travels.

This field trip introduces students to a variety of BC Olympians/Paralympians who have competed in past Games and highlights the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Future Hall of Famers will relive the excitement of the Vancouver 2010 Games on a tour of the medals, torches, podium and mascots. International and Canadian artifacts bring the athletes’ stories to life as students discover the passion and dedication of Olympic and Paralympic Champions.

Students will then view the inside of BC Place where the opening and closing ceremonies took place. After the tour students will take a look at some past mascots and create their own vision for what the 2014 Sochi Winter Games or the 2016 Rio Summer Games.

This field trip celebrates the history of sport in BC. Through the incredible journeys of our heroes, Future Hall of Famers will be inspired as they tour the First Nations, Best of BC, Our Teams Our Turf and Greg Moore Galleries. Students will explore the evolution of sport throughout BC, learn how young athletes transformed into Olympic champions and discover how small town teams developed into the Lions, Whitecaps and Canucks we know and love today.
