Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site

Our Trips

This engaging tour of our salmon canning line describes the life of Cannery workers, the west coast fishing industry and the innovative machines they worked with. Hear the stories of the people who contributed to the West Coast Fishing Industry and see the innovations come to life with a machine demonstration.

First Nations groups have fished along the banks of the Fraser River since time immemorial. Using object-based inquiry, students explore the significance of fishing for salmon, compare fishing methods, and learn about different preservation techniques.

Learn what it was like to work at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.  In this interactive and fun exploration, participants will take a tour of the facilities and then be put through the test of a canning relay race and trivia hunt.  This 90-minute program will introduce the people, jobs, and machinery of the cannery.
