Students learn about the unique life cycle of Pacific Salmon. Discover what salmon need to survive and what makes healthy salmon habitat. Discover what makes plants special by learning about plant parts and the basic needs of plants. Students discuss the stages of plant development, play Seed to Fruit Bingo, and start a plant collection book through outdoor exploration.

Students become Water Rangers as they discover where their drinking water comes from! Water Rangers will learn about the water cycle and make a water necklace and a water conservation door hanger.

Students become Hazard Detectives and identify which household hazardous products can be harmful by matching symbols with meanings. They also learn how household hazardous products can be harmful outside the home and learn safer choices for us and the environment.  Students participate in making a Greener Cleaner for their classroom.

Windows to the Past

Roedde House Museum

Our award-winning curriculum engages and stimulates students to connect the history of a young German immigrant family in Vancouver (between1880s-1920s) to their own and to reflect on immigration and social and cultural differences. The visit is split into 3 parts: architectural drawing (house and neighborhood), a tour of the house (during which children learn about the history of a family and of the city of Vancouver), and the discovery of unusual historical artifacts. This curriculum is particularly geared towards Grade 5 students, but can be easily adapted or used for other grades.
