Program Description & Details

Each spring and fall, 10-13 Vancouver Writers Fest authors visit to schools throughout Metro Vancouver to talk with students about reading and writing as part of its Writers in the Classroom program. These visits are coordinated—and hosted—at no cost to the school.

During the visit, authors read from their works, discuss their writing process and chat in an intimate setting for one class period.

In response to the special needs of schools, we are currently offering virtual classroom visits using video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom. In Spring, authors such as Jillian Christmas, Lindsay Wong, Sebastien de Castell, Dan Bar-el, Doug Savage, and more conducted online workshops adn we are excited to do this once again in the fall! More students than ever will now have access to these authors, with the added perk of seeing them in their homes, getting tours of their writing desks and libraries––and even getting introduced to their adorable pets!

Award-winning authors such as Steven Heighton, Michelle Kadarusman, Jess Keating, and more will be doing virtual school visits this Fall. Check our website in mid-August for the full line-up of authors and class application process.

Authors will be assigned to teachers on a first-come-first-serve basis. To learn more about Writers in the Classroom, please click here. We look forward to seeing you soon!
