This two-hour experience is ideal for larger groups that can switch between the botanical garden and the TreeWalk. Students explore the treetop canopy of the temperate rainforest on an aerial adventure on the TreeWalk and our many gardens and learn about the importance of forests, biodiversity, and the interconnectedness of trees with people, plants, and the planet. 

Whether you teach preschool, elementary, high school or post-secondary UBC Botanical Garden is an excellent place to enhance your classroom learning.

Activity Day Trips

Treat your class or group to a full day of outdoor adventure with Camp Jubilee’s popular Activity Day Trips. With 10 engaging options to choose from—including archery, voyageur canoeing, slingshots, beach study, shelter building, orienteering, and team building—students stay active while learning new skills, building confidence, and strengthening connections.

Our Standard Day Trip includes three guided activities and a nutritious lunch, with one free teacher for every 12 students. Groups looking for even more adventure can upgrade to the Extended Day Trip, which adds a campfire program and the chance for students ages 10+ to try kayaking.

Every trip includes round-trip boat transportation from Cates Park, North Vancouver, making it easy for schools to enjoy a seamless and unforgettable outdoor experience.

Program Description & Details

Programs for this age group are 1.5 hours long and include a short orientation session in our Lecture Hall with its museum collections, followed by a 1 hr biologist-led walk, during which students will learn the basics of bird identification and the importance of the Sanctuary's biodiversity to migratory birds and other wildlife. The Sanctuary is located in the Fraser River estuary, and trails meader between large treed areas, open ponds and natural tidal mudflats and wetlands. Seasonal highlights in the fall include the arrival of the Lesser Snow Geese from Russia. Winter highlights often include owls and the very friendly Black-capped Chickadees. In spring, the emphasis is on spring migrants and nesting behavior.

Discover the subtle signs of autumn and spring in the Richmond Nature Park with a naturalist-led guided walk that covers touch, scent, sound and sight, and a visit to the Nature House. This is an out trip for preschool and elementary classes. Registration is open from August to June.

This is a great option for two classes from one school who want to share a bus. The Discovery Kit is a backpack containing a class set of binoculars, a detailed map, an easy to follow teaching script, fun props, engaging activities and visuals.
