(Grades 4-7) Explore local Indigenous People's connections to the environment by comparing traditional salmon fishing tools, and learn how Aboriginal people preserve their culture from two local elders who share oral histories through a storytelling film.

This program is divided into:

• Introduction to program, centre and rules Outside (5 minutes)
• Salmon Origins Storytelling Film Theatre (20 minutes)
• Introduction in Theatre: (10 minutes)
• 2 Stations (25 minutes)
  • Salmon Fishing Tools and Methods (Hands-on inqury of traditional Indigenous fishing tools)
  • Wind-drying Salmon (Exploration of the method used to dry salmon in the Fraser Canyon, and a workshop on sharpening traditional slate knives)
• Conclusion Theatre (5 minutes)

This is a great option for two classes from one school who want to share a bus. The Discovery Kit is a backpack containing a class set of binoculars, a detailed map, an easy to follow teaching script, fun props, engaging activities and visuals.

Did you know that many amphibians call Langley home? Students learn all about amphibian lifecycles, adaptations, habitats, and frog friendly behaviour through interactive discussions and fun games. 

LEPS workshops take place in YOUR CLASSROOM in LANGLEY, ABBOTSFORD or SURREY school districts.

Find inspiration in permanent collection artworks by Sally Michener and Davide Pan and in masks from across the globe. Students will learn ceramic techniques such as slab construction, slip and score, and surface treatment through creating their own clay mask.

Reflect on community through a printmaking project that contemplates symbolism, family, and culture through the creation of an animal avatar. Students will be inspired by the Gallery’s permanent collection artworks that reflect diverse artistic practices and perspectives.

Students self-navigate Playland in order to answer questions about the park’s operations. Questions are designed to get students thinking about the business aspect of running an amusement park and the factors that need to be considered when establishing its procedures and policies. From towering forests to sandy seashores, regional parks are filled with fun, hands-on learning environments. Park interpreters lead field trips outdoors for about 2 hours. Students are engaged in discovery, activities and games related to the topic.
