This web-based Holocaust educational resource creates opportunities for students to interact with Holocaust survivor’s accounts of persecution, loss and survival. Educators and students can engage with Holocaust testimony in a lesson, within a larger unit, or as part of an independent research project.

A VHEC educator will travel to your classroom to present this workshop, free of charge. The workshop features an award-winning Canadian short film, entitled Pigeon, followed by an interactive presentation and discussion. Students learn about the systematic persecution of Jews in France and acts of rescue during the Holocaust. Questions by the workshop facilitator foster critical thinking and ideas about social responsibility and the choices we make.

Sessions run 60 minutes for secondary school classes, 45 minutes for elementary school classes, or as per agreement with the Centre.

Written to support distance learning but also useful for physically distanced teaching, a Tech-Up Learning Kit contains resources for both synchronous and/or asynchronous lessons. The teacher guide walks you through leading student activities over a series of sessions of approximately 30-45 minutes. Student activities are handouts for students to work through on their own as assigned, according to your own timeline and discretion.

In these activities, learners in Grades 4-6 will explore how parts of speech can be used to strengthen their understanding of variables.

Students will work towards writing their own Mad Lib Stories before using Scratch to code a Mad Lib story generator.

There is also an optional extension activity if you would like to build further on the coding concepts explored in these lessons.

This kit contains resources for both synchronous and asynchronous lessons.

After a full summer of online programs, many of us have experienced the adventure of adapting our theatre education programs for the digital space. We now invite our theatre education colleagues and enthusiasts to share their discoveries and brainstorm new strategies together. Beyond the Box is collaboratively organised and facilitated by the Education staff from Arts Club Theatre Company and Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival.

This downloadable digital school program is adapted from MOA’s in-person Transforming Image school program and is designed for teachers to deliver in-person or online. Students will encounter examples of historical and contemporary Northwest Coast First Nations paintings and be introduced to the innovative Image Recovery Project. This school program includes slide presentations, activities, and resources for teachers to implement as they see fit.

This downloadable digital school program is adapted from MOA’s onsite Architecture: Museum as Muse school program and is designed for teachers to deliver in-person or online. Taking inspiration from museum architecture around the world, students will learn to actively sense, observe and respond to their built environments—and to cultural institutions—in new ways. This school program includes slide presentations, activities, and resources for teachers to implement as they see fit.
