Students become Hazard Detectives and identify which household hazardous products can be harmful by matching symbols with meanings. They also learn how household hazardous products can be harmful outside the home and learn safer choices for us and the environment.  Students participate in making a Greener Cleaner for their classroom.

 LEPS workshops take place in YOUR CLASSROOM in LANGLEY, ABBOTSFORD or SURREY school districts.

JOURNEYS Education Kits offer object-based and multimedia learning tools for classroom use to learn about Japanese Canadian internment. The kit includes historical artefact replicas, primary and secondary source documents, and sample lesson plans suitable for students from grades 5 to 12. Have you ever wondered how amphibians can live in water and on land? Through play and exploration your students will learn about amphibians’ lifecycles, habitat types, food, and predators.

We will peek in our seasonal pond and explore the forest to look for amphibians, their habitats and prey.

'Taiken' is Japanese for 'personal experience'. Explore over 100 years of Japanese Canadian history and culture. Learn from community members and elders, engage with our collections and museum exhibits, and participate in fun hands-on activities in Japanese arts and culture such as Karate, Calligraphy, and Origami. Contact the education coordinator about availability. Tours run mornings or afternoons for 120 mins. Please book at least 3 weeks in advance.

How does industry impact a community? Learn about the fur trade, railroad, port, lumber mills, and others as you play our industry bingo. Listen to the stories of industry workers of the past, handle objects and examine historical photos and documents. Program adjusted to meet curriculum objectives for each grade level. *Program materials available as an in-class kit.

Discover the many wonders of the only mammal that can fly. Find out how bats live, hunt, echolocate and adapt to their habitat using their unique bodies. Because bats are nocturnal, we will not see any live bats during the program. Instead, we will explore their habitat with unique props and activities. Bats really are beautiful; learn why in this interactive forest adventure.

Visit the Lumberman’s Arch beach at low tide and explore the incredibly diverse and abundant life in the intertidal zone. Low tide offers us a glimpse at fascinating animals and plants that have adapted to life in and out of the sea. Hunt for crabs, sort seaweeds, and find out what else lives or eats on the seashore, while students discover important human connections to the oceans. Beach Explorers is a tide-dependent program and is available in spring between April and June. Please contact us for available dates.
