Written to support distance learning but also useful for physically distanced teaching, a Tech-Up Learning Kit contains resources for both synchronous and/or asynchronous lessons. The teacher guide walks you through leading student activities over a series of sessions of approximately 30-45 minutes. Student activities are handouts for students to work through on their own as assigned, according to your own timeline and discretion.

In these activities, learners in Grades 4-6 will explore how binary code can be used to represent images while exploring reflections and transformations. They will be invited to share their binary code with their peers and work from each other’s codes. They will start with binary code for simple two-toned images and then work their way into coding four-toned images with possible extensions into how all colours are coded in binary for computers to use.

This kit contains resources for both synchronous and asynchronous lessons.

What exactly is plankton? We will collect a sample right from outside our front step and show you another world! These tiny creatures are found in all waters and have very cool life histories.

This one is a great follow up to the Oceanography trip!

We will leave the dock in our skiff and study the ocean! Students will learn about the factors that influence water density (temperature and salinity), as well as basics of physical and biological oceanography.

Although we can’t gather right now to experience Shakespeare through performance, there are other ways to discover the vast and varied worlds of Shakespeare! We’ve created these free resources to help you and your students playfully explore Shakespeare’s language, characters, imagery, and plays. Each resource includes a series of asynchronous activities that can be adapted to fit your class's needs.

Explore at Home is hosted on Google Classroom, and can be accessed with a free Google account. Please see our website for instructions on accessing the Classroom. New content is added regularly, so check back often!

Explore at Home is also a great resource for preparing or following up one of our FREE Bard in the (Virtual) Classroom sessions.

Bring an engaging, interactive experience with Shakespeare to your online classroom! In this session, a Bard Teaching Artist will share their experiences as a Shakespeare actor, answering students’ questions about the language, characters, and plays, and what it’s like to bring them to life on stage. This free-form discussion can focus on a specific play or support an introduction to Shakespeare.

• Where: On your school’s preferred video conferencing platform. Bard Education may also be able to host the session on Zoom; please inquire.
• When: available school days, between the hours of 9 am – 4 pm
• Length: 45 minutes long
• Cost: FREE! (Workshops are valued at $125, and all fees are covered by the Bard Education Bursary Fund for the 2020/2021 school year)

This downloadable digital school program is drawn from the Shake Up: Preserving What We Value exhibition, developed to link MOA’s current seismic upgrading to Northwest Coast Indigenous knowledge and earth sciences. Students will learn about the cultural importance of earthquakes to different Indigenous peoples of the Northwest Coast, and will be encouraged to think critically about the intersections between Indigenous knowledge, oral histories and traditional Western scientific evidence. This school program is designed for teachers to deliver in-person or online, and includes resources and activities for teachers to implement as they see fit.
